This gorgeous baby girl came in for her newborn photography session with a dog in tow. She brought in her pet pup with her so we could get some adorable baby and pup photos.
She was so sleepy and cozy throughout her photo session. She looked so amazing in every color I use don her. We did mauve, pink, lavender, cream and tan. She gave me a sweet little smile letting me know that she was comfortable and happy all bundled up. I always have a heater right by the baby during newborn photo sessions to keep them warm. If baby isn’t a great sleeper, I swaddle them so they feel safe and bundled. Babies love to be swaddled. Especially these babies who are typically only a couple of weeks old.
Once we were done with all the single baby photos, I placed the baby in a prop and incorporated the dog. She was so cooperative!! I showed her a treat and she sat nice and still for me so I could get a few photos before she ran back to mom.
Pet photos with a newborn can be challenging if the dog is not well trained. But I’ve done several sessions and it’s never been an issue. Pets can be involved in maternity, family, child or newborn photography sessions. The studio can accommodate pets and parents can always take them outside for a walk if they need it. I’ve had everything from very big dogs to tiny ones like this one and they always make for amazing newborn photos.
Grandma got a large metal of this newborn photo with a sliver frame. The metal was a perfect choice for this image.
This is one of the most requested newborn portraits. I love how the color accents the pink in her adorable cheeks.

I love detail photos. Often during a newborn session, I will change out my lens and do some macro photography to capture baby’s cute little lashes, fingers, toes, lips, etc.
You can certainly include your pet in your photos. Here is a perfect example of newborn photography session with a dog. This pup sat at attention as I held up a treat for him.
