Baby Boy 1st Birthday Photo Session

This adorable baby boy was back for his 1st birthday photo session!! We did little AJ’s newborn photos last year and he was back to do some fun 1st birthday and cake smash photos.

We chose a neutral background to go with his cute outfit and then let him have some fun on our vintage wooden horse. He was all smiles and giggles for me.  We then switched to a wood background to go with his adorable jeans and suspenders and let him to go town on his cake. He was happy to dig in and get messy.

1st birthday sessions always include a traditional portrait to commemorate baby’s 1st year. If baby is standing or walking I try to capture that milestone. We sometimes include the parents in the session and then we do the cake smash at the end since it tends to be messy.  I typically use our birch cake stand or a plastic cake stand that can be decorated.  Either way, the cake stand is safe and won’t break if baby knocks the cake over.

I always recommend that parents give the baby a cupcake with lots of icing to taste and play with so that babies do not freak out by the sugary taste or the sticky icing on their fingers during their birthday photos.

These sessions are always fun and such a great way to remember your baby’s very first birthday.

AJ had so much fun riding our vintage wooden horse although he could barely reach the floor. Mom was close by at all times to keep him safe.

Our birthday cake smash is always the most fun part of our birthday sessions. AJ went to town on his cake and loved the icing.  I love this perspective of him looking up at the camera.
